What started as a strategy to increase customer satisfaction has now become a basic offer from the three top telco providers in Kenya, free WhatsApp.
Each of the three, Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom are trying to outwit each other as far as customer satisfaction is concerned, and this competition now focuses on data.
At some point there was a Daily 1 GB game  on who can offer the best daily I GB data bundle, and then came the free WhatsApp.
To stand out from the crowd, Telkom decided to go ahead and offer a daily WhatsApp bundle for just Ksh.5.
How to buy Telkom daily WhatsApp
This allows Telkom subscribers access WhatsApp up to 50 Mb daily. If the 50 Mb is not enough, you can subscribe as many times as you wish,and the data will be accumulated.
To purchase the daily WhatsApp bundle:
  • Dial *544# on your Telkom line.
  • Select option 3,' data bundles ' then daily bundles.
  • Choose the first option, daily WhatsApp.
  • Select either once time purchase or auto renewal.

The bundle is valid for 24 hours and will automatically renew after the expiry of the current plan. If you don't exhaust your data before the expiry period, then you will loose all the remaining bundles after 24 hours, and all you will have to do is purchase a new plan.
In case you buy anew one while you still have an active plan, the new one will stretch the validity period, and will expire after 24 hours since the purchase of the last plan.
If you have other data plans, WhatsApp will not use the main data upon purchasing of this bundle. But once it expires, then your other data plans will be used.
Apart from the daily WhatsApp, Telkom also offers its customers free WhatsApp upon purchase of any freedom bundle. The free WhatsApp is valid for the duration of the freedom bundle subscribed to, but gives up to a maximum of 50 mb daily.
