Netflix  is an online streaming  service that allows you stream a variety of movies, TV shows,  documentaries,  feature films and much more on any internet  enabled device.
The company started in 1997 as an online DVD rental service has since grown and now has an exceptional reputation for its exceptional movies all over the world, with a presence in over 190 countries and over 100 million subscribers.
Netflix officially launched its services in Kenya January  2016, received with mixed reaction because it was relatively cheap as compared to pay-TV services in the country at the time.
It's  warm reception also saw other similar  service providers launch later in the country  including Multi choice owned Showman and later Kwese Iflix.
Advantages of Netflix.
  1. Lots of entertainment options to choose from,  be it movies,  documentaries,  Kids content,  TV shows and much more.  Lately Netflix has gained a reputation  for its exceptional  Netflix branded movies and series only exclusive to Netflix. 
  2. Netflix  supports a lot of  streaming devices from Android,  IOS,  smart Tvs Pcs and even set top boxes $ gaming consoles. Although you  need is an active subscription and internet connection. 
  3. Easy subscription. You get one month  free subscription  as a new member and thereafter put on a Pay to watch basis,  meaning you won't  have to worry about billing. There are also no hidden charges,  and even if you don't  pay your monthly  subscription  you will still remain a member. 
  4. Various video quality  options to choose  from depending on your internet strength. 
Netflix subscription plans.
There are three plans to choose from; basic, standard and premium.
Basic costs you  USD 7.99 which is aproximately Ksh. 809 Per month, and supports only one streaming device at one given time.
Basic also supports only SD viewing, and if you love HD or UHD, then this plan is definitely not for you.
Standard will charge you USD 9.99 or Ksh. 1011 Per month, and supports both SD and HD streaming but not UHD.
You can also stream with two devices simultaneously, at different locations.
Premium is the highest plan @ USD 11.99 or Ksh. 1214 Per month.
It supports both HD and UHD streaming, and can stream with up to four devices simultaneously, making it ideal for family.

Netflix  Recommend  Streaming Speeds. 
You can stream Netflix on SD(Standard definition),  HD(High definition)  or UHD-Ultra High Definition. 
The quality you are going to enjoy however depends on the following factors:
  • Your monthly subscription  plan. Only Standard and Premium plans support HD viewing,  but basic only uses SD. 
  • Your streaming device video quality.  You cannot  expect to enjoy UHD video quality on a device that does not have a UHD screen resolution.Any device with a 720p or lower can only support SD. 
  • Your Internet speeds. In order to enjoy HD streaming,  your Internet connection should have a constant bandwidth  of 5mbps or higher. 
  • Below are the recommend  internet  speeds for the various Netflix connections:
            3.0 mbps for SD
            5.0 mbps - HD quality 
             25 mbps - UHD
To enjoy HD streaming,  ensure your video quality in settings is set to Auto or High.
How to sign up for Netflix in Kenya. 
  1. Go to www.netflix.com/signup
  2. Choose a subscription  plan that you are comfy with,  either basic,  standard or premium.  The default selection is premium. 
  3. Click continue and will take you to step 2 of 
  4. Click continue  again and enter your email. Choose your prefered password and complete the sign up.
Note: Unlike other streaming services,  Netflix  does not accept M-pesa payments,  and for you to sign up you should have an active PayPal account.

    1. Currently you can't pay Netflix directly using M-pesa, since Netflix has not partnered with M-pesa. The only option is to have a PayPal account then link it with your M-pesa.
