New M-Pesa Charges

Safaricom have announced new M-Pesa transaction charges effective 1st January 2020, the new changes affecting upto 90% of M-Pesa users and transactions.

This follows an advisory from the Central Bank Of Kenya that directed all mobile money Service Providers to review their transaction charges. This also will ensure all person-to-person mobile money transfers to any individual or mobile network of upto Ksh. 100 will be free of charge.

Safaricom have therefore reduced their M-Pesa Withdrawal Charges by upto 45%. It will now cost you just Ksh. 32 to withdraw money between Ksh. 1501- Ksh. 2500 down from the previous Ksh. 41, and likewise you will be charged Ksh. 105 to withdraw money between Ksh. 50,001 - Ksh. 150,000 down from Ksh.300.

M-Pesa free Services.
 With M-Pesa it's free to register for the service, buy airtime, deposit money at an agent, check M-Pesa balance and it is also free to change your M-Pesa Pin.
The new changes were announced by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on December 17th 2020 via a Statement.
Please Note:
  • Since March 2020, Safaricom waived all person to person M-Pesa transfer charges for all transfers below Ksh.1,000.
  • New M-Pesa transaction limit is now Ksh. 150,000 per transaction and Ksh.300,000 per day.
  • Maximum account balance is Ksh. 300,000.
  • At an agent you cannot deposit money directly to another M-Pesa account.
  • You earn Bonga Points when you transact on M-Pesa.
Incase of a wrong M-Pesa transaction you can initiate a self reversal by sending a the transaction message to 456.
