How to buy Airtel Airtime From Mpesa

How to top up Airtel airtime from M-Pesa

If you have an Airtel Line you can easily and convinietly top up via M-Pesa using any of the many airtime top up Paybill numbers, some even not charging you for a certain top up amount.

Airtel; Kenya's second largest Telco provider is well known for it's highly affordable Amazing Data Bundles like the daily 200MB for Ksh. 20 bob or the monthly 3GB for Ksh. 300. Their data also come loaded with other gifts including free WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter, with some bundles having a night data package.

The only issue that many of it's Subscribers are concerned about is it's poor Network coverage in the country and I believe if Airtel sorts this out then they can give Safaricom a worthy Competition.

If you're lucky to be in a place where the network is fair enough, then you can make free Airtel to Airtel calls courtesy of Airtel Tubonge, as well as call other networks at just Ksh. 2 Bob per minute.

How to top up Airtel Via M-Pesa.

There are a number of M-Pesa Paybill numbers out there that you can use to buy airtime via M-Pesa, but here we have picked the best two.

1. Using Pesapal.
Pesapal was the first Mpesa airtime purchase service provider, and up to now many Kenyans use this service to top up their Airtel and Telkom lines direct from Safaricom Mpesa.
To buy Airtel Airtime from M-Pesa,
  1. Go to Mpesa pay bill.
  2. Enter business number 220220.
  3. Enter your Airtel number as account number.
  4. Enter the amount, your Mpesa pin then OK.
  5. You will receive an SMS from Mpesa and  Pesapal confirming your purchase.

  • You can also complete your payments through bank, or instead use Visa card or master card. Some payment options might require extra information to complete the payment.
The advantage with Pesapal online airtime purchase is that it allows you to buy airtime for multiple numbers, each with a different top up value.
Apart from airtime purchase,Pesapal has other services which include allowing merchants receive online payments. For more you can visit Pesapal official website.
The only concern with Pesapal is that their transactions usually takes some minutes to reflect.
Of major concern is that if you top up more than once, then for some strange reason the second top up takes very long to reflect and even after calling their customer care you will still have to wait for quite a long period of time. We tried to reach out to them about this issue but never gave us an explanation.
It will also not be fair to use almost the same amount of airtime just to call them back for the same issue.

2. Using JAZALINK
After being dissapointed by Pesapal for a number of times due to the delayed second airtime top up, I decided to try out JAZALINK and till date this is my best Airtel M-Pesa top up option.
It's top up transactions reflect very fast, almost immediately and any airtime top up of less than Ksh. 100 is free.
To buy airtel airtime using JAZALINK:
  1. Go to M-Pesa pay bill.
  2. Enter business number 309028
  3. Enter your Airtel number as account number.
  4. Enter the amount, your Mpesa pin then OK.
  5. You will receive an SMS confirmation of your top up.
You can also top up your Telkom Kenya airtime using ipay paybill number 510800. Ipay is an online payment platform that allows traders and individuals receive/make online payments Via mpesa,VISA, MasterCard Airtel money or Kenswitch.
Note: You earn Zawadi Points Everytime you  use your Airtel line to make calls, buy data or send SMS. For every Ksh.1 spent, you are awarded one Ziada Point. After you have accumulated enough points you can redeem them for free airtime, bundles or a device

Airtel Zawadi points-Everything you need to Know.

Zawadi is a Swahili term for a gift or to reward. Airtel Zawadi therefore is a loyalty program by Airtel Kenya aimed at rewarding its customers for staying loyal to the brand by using their various products and services .  The service closely resembles Safaricom bonga and Telkom Ziada , both also rewarding customers for using their lines to make calls, browse or send SMS as well as transacting on mpesa. How to register for Airtel Zawadi . Initially Airtel was giving it's subscribers an opportunity to register for Airtel Zawadi by dialing *326# and selecting the option for ' registration'.  Then later couldn't see the option to register and when we contacted Airtel they told us new customers we're automatically enrolled to the program on successful registration of their lines so that they could begin earning from their first top up.  However it seems Airtel are not enrolling their Subscribers for the program anymore, and when I tried to check my points balance
