What is Netflix?
This is an online Video on demand subscription-based streaming service provider with operations in almost the entire world except some few countries including Mainland China, North Korea, Syria and Crimea due to various circumstances including restrictions or sanctions.

The company was founded in 1997 by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings, an American Computer Scientist and Mathematicians. Hastings is the current Chairman and Co-CEO of the company.

Netflix initially started as a DVD rental service provider, an initiative started when DVD's emerged in America. The DVD'S were sent to clients via mail. The DVD'S Compact and lightweight design became the biggest advantage to the Company's initial business venture.

It later introduced a monthly subscription plan,(maybe motivated by the Amazon.com model) that allowed it's subscribers access to as many videos as they could watch, without fear of due dates, late fines or additional mailing costs.

In September 2010, Netflix started a standalone streaming service independent of the DVD rental service, a venture that would later expand it's wings world-wide, and the major way that millions of subscribers including here in the country enjoy unlimited entertainment.

Netflix then went Global with Canada launch followed by Latin America. In 2016 it announced that it was extending it's services to other countries worldwide, including Africa. That's when it started it's streaming services in the country and for the first time in history Kenyans could also access thousands of videos, series and TV shows as the rest of the world.

It received with mixed reaction because it was relatively cheap as compared to pay-TV services in the country at the time, but it's major challenge was the availability affordable high internet connectivity.
It's  warm reception also saw other similar  service providers launch later in the country  including Multi choice owned Showman and later Kwese Iflix.
