Released January 2021, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T is another affordable 5G smartphone from Xiaomi with a retail price of around Ksh. 40,000. This is a 5G phone and has a number of promising specs expected of a 2021 mid-range smartphone including a big display, lovely design, good battery size, powerful charging system and a powerful processor to match.
It features a 6.53 inch IPS LCD display exactly the same as that of the Redmi Note 9 and the Poco M3. It has a Full HD+ display resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 395 ppi. Though many phones at this price tag now come with an AMOLED display, this phone's display is still good enough for watching movies and playing games. It also lacks 120HZ refresh rate as well as HDR and if these two are a must have then you can check out the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
The Redmi 9T is made of a plastic back and a plastic frame but has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display for maximum security. The decision to go for a plastic back could have been in order to keep the price of this phone as low as possible but still faces a stiff Competition from the Redmi Note 9 Pro, realme C15 and other budget 5G phones.
Despite being a 2021 phone, the Redmi9T ships with Android 10 atop The MIUI 12 user interface but it could receive Android 11 update.
Under the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 800U, a powerful 7nm fabricated chipset with a number of 5G innovations including dual 5G standby. The chipset already powers a number of 5G mid-range devices including the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G, Oppo F19 Pro and the recently launched Vivo V21.
The phone is available in three memory variants of 4+64, 4+128 and 6+128GB available in two color of Nightfall Black and Daybreak Purple. A number of close rivals of this phone have 8GB RAM like the realme V15.
In the camera department the Note 9T comes with a total of four Cameras three in the rear and one in front. The rear cameras are made up of a primary 48MP wide lens and a 2MP macro lens. Supported Camera features include LED flash, panorama and HDR, and can shoot 4K videos. The selfie camera is a single 16MP lens which can also shoot 1080p videos.
The phone is powered by a non removable 5,000 mAh battery which is more than enough for this phone and the included 18W fast charge can deliver 33% battery charge in half an hour. This is still however much slower than the 33W in the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G which can achieve a 100% charge in just 58 minutes.
