Announced and released March this year, the Oppo Find X3 Pro is the latest of Oppo Find X smartphones with a retail price of Ksh. 147,000. It takes over from last year’s Find X2 Pro and has some of the best industry specs and competing well will other flagships including the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
The Oppo Find X3 features a 6.7 inch AMOLED display with 1 billion colors, 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ support. The display has an impressive display resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels and a pixel density of 526 ppi. The only phone that comes close to this display is the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, with the Mi 11 having 1440 x 3200 pixels and a 515 ppi pixel Density.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro ships with Android 11 atop ColorOs 11, and is powered by the 5nm Snapdragon 888. This is the best Snapdragon processor ever made, and first features in the Xiaomi Mi 11 announced December last year. Other phones that have been announced and/or released with the Snapdragon 888 include the Samsung Galaxy S21+ and S21 Ultra USA version, the Asus Rog Phone 4 and the Vivo X60 Pro plus among other 2021 flagship devices. The processor is supported by 12 GB RAM making this
Backed by 8 or 12 GB RAM, the Oppo X3 Pro is one of the few that can handle any smartphone task you can think of, be it multitasking, high Graphics gaming or high resolution online streaming. There’s only one memory option of 256GB with no SD card support.
In the camera department the phone comes with a quad rear camera setup made of a primary 50 MP lens, 13MP telephoto with 2x Optical Zoom, a 50MP Ultrawide lens and a 3MP macro lens. Apart from impressive photos you can also record upto 4K videos, slightly lower than the 8K resolution of many Industry leaders including the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
In front is a 32MP selfie camera that produces excellent results, but this being the same as the one in the X2 Pro we can’t help but feel that Oppo didn’t do much to upgrade this camera.
It also comes with a 4,500 mAh non removable battery that has 65W fast charge and 30W wireless charge, more about this later.
Oppo Find X3 Pro Price in Kenya.
The phone is not yet available in the country, but is expected to have a retail price of Ksh. 147,000 which is almost the same as the 1149 Euros the phone is retailing at in Europe.
Considering this phone's specs, Oppo will have no option but to drastically lower it’s price to sell, otherwise it will have a hard task to outdo the likes of Samsung Galaxy S21 phones, Xiaomi Mi 11 series and the recently launched Vivo V series including the Vivo V60 Pro.
While it has the same display quality and the same chipset as that of many high end flagship smartphones, the camera performance and overall finish might not be as good as that of similarly priced phones.

Lovely Design.
Oppo have been for a long time known for their unique camera designs including the pop up cameras and the sharkfin cameras that never picked up.
This time they also wanted to give us something different, and after learning from their mistakes they never went out of the box, and design the rear-camera module that has a
Apart from the eunique rear design the X3 Pro is made of Corilla Glass 5 both front and back with an aluminum frame. Acording to early reviewers, the back is a fingerprint magnet, something that could also affect the overall sales of this phone.
Just like many flagships, this phone is also IP 68 rated making it dust and water resistant upto 1.5m for 30 minutes.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro measures 163.6 x 74 x 8.3 making it slightly taller than the OnePlus 9 Pro and much slimmer than most flagships including the Galaxy S21 Ultra, OnePlus 9 Pro and Vivo X60 Pro+. However it's still much thicker compared to Vivo X60 Pro at 7.6 inch and Vivo X60 at just 7.6mm thick.
The front is largely made of the 6.7 inch curved display with an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 89.6%, but still the OnePlus 9 Pro has a much higher ratio of 90.3%.
The screen is a high quality LTPO AMOLED with 120HZ refresh rate, HDR10+ and can display upto 1 Billion colors. The punch hole that houses the selfie camera is placed at the top left corner of the phone, and not at the center like with many flagships. It houses the single 32MP selfie camera.
Just like the front the rear of the phone is also made out of Gorilla Glass 5 and is quite appealing, safe for the rather oddly designed camera module that gives the phone a rather bold design that might not appeal to all. The use of Gorilla Glass 5 instead of Gorilla Glass Victus as in other high end phones might also affect the pricing of the phone.
You can choose between a number of colors including Condensed White, Mist Blue, Cosmic Mocha and Mirror Black.
Display.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro features a 6.7 inch LTPO AMOLED with 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, HDR10+ and can display 1B colors joining the league of other big boys like the Mi 11, Galaxy Ultra, Mi mix Fold among other flagships. The screen is slightly the same size as that of the OnePlus 9 Pro and slightly smaller than that of the Galaxy S21 Ultra by just 0.1 inch.
It has a QHD display resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels, the same as the Galaxy S21 Ultra and OnePlus 9 Pro. This is a great confirmation that you will get the best display experience on a smartphone so far if you get to have this phone.
The big screen and high resolution makes the Oppo Find X3 Pro an ideal phone for watching movies, online streaming and gaming, and has a good sound quality that completes the immersive viewing experience.
The high pixel density of 525 together with the 120Hz refresh rate results in crisp and detailed images, texts and icons and you will love how the display responds to the touch or swipe of your finger.
With a peak brightness of 1300 nits, the phone’s display is bright enough to be used in any lighting conditions including outdoors even in direct sunlight.
Software Performance.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro joins the long list of phones powered by the 5nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, the best Smartphone processor available currently and is a big plus over the Galaxy S21 Ultra international variant which uses the Exynos 2100.
The 5 nm fabricated chipset is believ d to be even more powerful than many PC processors giving you the power of a computer in your hand, able to handle any computing tasks without breaking a sweat. It is ideal for multitasking, high resolution online streaming as well as high Graphics gaming and high quality video recording and editing.
The phone runs Android 11 with the ColorOs 11.2 skin, and is available in two variants of 8/128GB and 12/256GB with no external SD card support.
Cameras.
Cameras are still considered a key marketing feature in smartphones, and many phones now come with more than three cameras. Most camera arrangements are made of a primary camera that does most of the work, an ultra-wide lens for increased field of view, a telephoto lens for optical zoom, a depth sensor for increased details and a macro lens for close up photos.
Oppo have been consistently doing their best to give us the best ever camera experienced in a smartphone, and despite various ground breaking inventions and numerous patents it looks like they are finally settling on simple camera designs just like other phone brands.
The Find X3 Pro has a Quad rear camera setup made up of a primary 50MP lens, a 13MP telephoto, a 50MP macro lens and a 3MP micro lens.
The Primary camera produces excellent photos with color and detail, the same as the 50MP wide lens only that there's increased field of view. The telephoto lens has 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom, something which looks like a downgrade considering Oppo have been consistently pushing the boundaries to have upto or more than 10x Optical Zoom.
The 3MP macro lens is mostly for fun according to me, allowing you to shoot minute details that might not be visible to your eye, more of a simple microscope.
The cameras can shoot videos of upto 8K at 30 frames per second, as expected of a phone it's price tag. There are also a number of camera functions on the camera app you can play with to see which ones works best for you.
The selfie camera is a single 32MP wide lens, and just like the rear camera it also does a good job and you will love how your selfies look on your social media platforms.
Battery.
The phone comes with a non removable 4,500 mAh battery which might get drained pretty fast by the power demanding display and Cameras. Luckily it comes with 65W fast charge which can give you 40% charge in just 10 minutes. It also Supports 30W wireless charge which can get 100% charge in 80 minutes. There's also 10W wireless reverses charge.
Conclusion.
Considering the Specifications if the Oppo Find X3 Pro, there's no doubt this is a flagship device that offers similar performance as that of other high end phones. It's display size and quality, processor and charging technology are as good as other such priced phones.
The only issues that might affect the sales of this phone are the cameras which are not as powerful as that of similar priced phones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and we might see the price of this phone drastically drop in the coming months.
