Nokia 5.4 vs Nokia 3.4

Towards the end of last year, HMD Global launched their latest Nokia 5 series Smartphone the Nokia 5.4. One look at this phone and you're reminded of the Nokia 3.4, a budget smartphone launched October 2020 just two months before the 5.4.
It's therefore not surprising that the two phones have alot in common, including the same design, looks and even the same measurements.
But with the Nokia 5.4 having a retail price of Ksh. 24,500 it must have some advantages over the Ksh. 14,999 priced Nokia 3.4, and if any, is the price difference worth it?
In this detailed Nokia 5.4 Vs Nokia 3.4 post we not only answer that question, but give you a spec by spec detailed comparison between these two phones so you can make an informed decision.

Nokia 2.4 vs Nokia 3.4 Design and display comparison.

Putting the two phones side by side, it would almost be practically impossible to tell one from the other, safe for their slight color differences.

The Nokia 5.4 is available in two colors of Polar Night and Dusk, while the Nokia 3.4 is available in Fjord, Dusk and charcoal. So if you have both Dusk coloured phones, you won't be able to tell between the two just on their looks.

Both the Nokia 5.4 and the Nokia 3.4 have the same punch hole display with the selfie camera placed at the top left of the screen. They also have the same measurements of 161 x 76 x 8.7 mm with the same circular camera modules at the back and thin front bezels which slightly thicken at the top and bottom with a Nokia logo at the bottom chin.

All the buttons are also the same, including a Google assistant button at the Left and a USB Type-c 2.0 port at the bottom. The power and volume rockers for both phones are placed at the right side with the traditional 3.5 mm jack port placed at the top. This is almost the same design for many mid and budget Nokia Smartphones.

Cosidering  such close designs, it's not surprising that both the Nokia 5.4 and Nokia 3.4 have the same 6.39 inch displays with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. Their screen size is slightly smaller than that in the Nokia 2.4, and almost the same as the 6.2 inch in the Nokia 2.3.

The display is of average quality expected of budget smartphones below Ksh. 20,000 but considering there are a number of sub 25k phones with a Full HD displays including the Samsung Galaxy A50, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, Note 9 and Note 10 series, the Nokia 5.4 is not that lucky as far as the display quality is concerned.

For the Nokia 3.4, that's much pretty standard display quality for almost all sub 15k smartphones including the Infinix Hot 10, realme C15 as well as realme C12 among other budget Smartphones.

Hardware and Software Performance.

Apart from the same design, the Nokia 3.4 and 5.4 have almost totally different software and hardware specs, safe for the OS.

While the Nokia 3.4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor, the Nokia 5.4 feature the Snapdragon 662. Both processors are 11nm fabricated and were launched together January 2020 but the Snapdragon 662 is slightly powerful than the Snapdragon 460 with a top clock speed of 2.2 GHz compared to 1.8 GHz of the Snapdragon 460.

While the 3.4 has two variant of 3 and 4GB RAM, the Nokia 5.4 comes in two variants of 4 or 6 GB RAM. You can choose between 32 and 64 GB storage in the Nokia 3.4 and between 64 and 128 GB in the Nokia 5.4.

Both phones ship with Android 10 out of the box and are Android 11 ready meaning you will get the latest update once it begins rolling.

Being part of Android one program, the phones are entitled to timely security as well as software updates and while this is a major advantage over their close Competitors from other brands, it won't help us here differentiate between the two.

Cameras And Batteries.

While comparing the Nokia 3.4 vs the Nokia 2.4, one slight advantage the 3.4 had was the Triple rear camera configuration, though both phones had the same 13MP primary lens. The Nokia 5.4 takes the camera performance a step further with the Quad rear camera setup made of a primary 48 MP camera, a 5MP ultrawide lens the same as in the 3.4, another similar 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens mising in the 3.4. The macro lens usually comes in handy when taking close-up photos.

The 48MP in the Nokia 5.4 results in better photography with more detailed photos and a better indoors performance so theirs no doubt who's the boss here. The 4K video shooting in the Nokia 5.4 is also another major advantage over the Nokia 3.4, and though the focus now is on 8K video shooting and streaming, it might still take a while before we see such specs at a budget level.

It won't be fair if we don't mention here that despite having 4k video recording capabilities, the low HD+ display quality is a total let down since you won't enjoy your videos on the same device unless you use another screen to play back the 4K video content.

When it comes to the batteries, both the Nokia 3.4 and the Nokia 5.4 feature the same 4,000 mAh non removable batteries. Nokia have always been selfish when it comes to battery capacities and so far I haven't come across a Nokia phone with over 5,000 mAh, though I stand to be corrected here.

Both also support 10W fast charging if you're lucky enough to have a compatible charger. But even if you have a compatible fast charger, the 10W charging makes no significant difference and you will have to wait for hours to fully charge your phone. Compare this with the 50W flash charge of the Oppo Reno 5 and you get exactly what I mean here.

Nokia 5.4 Vs Nokia 3.4 Conclusion.

While the Nokia 3.4 and Nokia 5.4 have almost the same specs including the same design, the same display size and quality as well as the same battery performance, the Nokia 5.4 has a much better processor and bigger memory which comes in handy when handling heavy tasks and multitasking.

However at such a price the Nokia 5.4 has a poor display quality as compared to it's rivals and we therefore feel that the Nokia 3.4 is a much more worthy purchase considering it's pricing but this doesn't stop you from going for the Nokia 5.4.

Airtel Zawadi points-Everything you need to Know.

Zawadi is a Swahili term for a gift or to reward. Airtel Zawadi therefore is a loyalty program by Airtel Kenya aimed at rewarding its customers for staying loyal to the brand by using their various products and services .  The service closely resembles Safaricom bonga and Telkom Ziada , both also rewarding customers for using their lines to make calls, browse or send SMS as well as transacting on mpesa. How To register for Airtel Zawadi . Initially for you to begin earning Zawadi points, you first had to register for the same by dialing *326# and selecting the option for ' registration'.  Then we couldn't see the option to register and when we contacted Airtel they told us new customers we're automatically enrolled to the program on successful registration of their lines so that they could begin earning from their first too up.  However it seems Airtel are not enrolling their Subscribers for the program anymore, and when I tried to check my points balance after us

According to  Kachwanya , Safaricom was offering 100 MB free sherekea data on 14th December 2016 to mark the many years they have been loyal Safaricom customers. But then, you had to download the Safaricom app in order to enjoy the free data. During it's 18th anniversary celebrations, Safaricom announced that it will henceforth reward it's
