The realme GT 5G and Xiaomi Mi 11 are two phone with a number of similarities including the same processor and memory size, but with a price of around $851 for the Xiaomi Mi 11 and around $540 for the Realme GT we can see that the realme GT is still way much cheaper than the Mi 11, but there are a number of compromises realme has to make and the ones you will have to get contented with for such a price tag.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 was announced December 2020 as the first phone to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a 5nm fabricated chipset that has become a top choice for 2021 flagship smartphones including the Galaxy S21 Plus and S21 Ultra US versions, the OnePlus 9 Pro and other top notch Android smartphones money can buy.
When OnePlus announced their OnePlus 9 Pro match this year, the phone features the same Snapdragon 888 and a number of other flagship features, but with a price of around $1060 it was clear that OnePlus had lost their title as a flagship killer brand.
That’s why realme quickly seized the moment and announced the realme GT, the cheapest ever Snapdragon 888 phone earning it the flagship killer phone.
In this post we will therefore be comparing not just any other two smartphones, but two phones with an history of one being the first ever Snapdragon 888 phone and the other being the first cheapest Snapdragon 888 phone.

Design.
Just like many other flagships the realme GT and Xiaomi Mi 11 are both beautiful phones with a number of specs to match, each having it’s own design that sets it apart from the rest. The Mi 11 has a premium built expected of a phone of it’s stature, with a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus front and back. This is so far the best Glass for high end 2021 phones including the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Mi 11 Ultra. On it’s part the realme GT has a plastic back with no Gorilla Glass protection, a luxury we will have to let go in order to get a flagship processor phone at almost half the price of it’s Competitors. It is however worth mentioning here that both phones lack an IP rating, so they are not dust or water resistant a feature that is always expected of flagship phones. The Mi 11 was criticized so much for this so that Xiaomi had to correct it in the Mi 11 Ultra.
The Mi 11 measures 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.1 mm while the realme GT measures 158.5 x 73.3 x 8.4 mm. This means that the Mi 11 is much taller and wider than the realme GT, but is surprisingly smiller as well. Many flagships are much thicker, and Xiaomi had to let go of the telephoto lens and the 3.5mm jack port in order to achieve this slimness. Both phones are also very light with the realme GT weighing 186g and the Mi 11 196 g. Both phones are light enough to carry around and for one handed operations.
The back designs are also very different with the realme GT having a rectangular camera module while the Mi 11 has a rounded square module common of iPhones. Both have triple rear cameras, the primary camera sitting well over the others making it more pronounced in the Mi 11.
Display.
The realme GT has a 6.43 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It supports 120Hz refresh rate and has a pixel density of 409 ppi which is pretty good for a phone at this price. On It’s part the Mi 11 has a 6.81 inch AMOLED display with WQHD display of 1440 x 3200 pixels resulting in an impressive pixel desnity of 515 ppi. The Mi 11 also Supports 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. This is a top notch display and very few phones can match the display quality of this phone. It puts it at bar with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the OnePlus 9 Pro. With a maximum brightness of 1500 nits the display of the Mi 11 can get really bright and can be used in all lighting conditions including directly under the sun.
Cameras.
The two phones have almost the same camera module design but different performance. The realme GT has a Primary 64MP wide lens, an 8MP Ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. While the performance of these cameras is as expected of a phone at it’s price, it doesn’t have what it takes to rival those of flagship phones like OnePlus 9 Pro. On It’s part the Mi 11 has tree rear lenses made up of a primary 108MP lens, a 13MP Ultrawide lens and a 5MP macro lens. The camera performance of this phone is very good thanks to the primary 108MP lens. However the Mi 11 doesn’t have a telephoto lens, and that’s where it can’t match the likes of Galaxy S22 Ultra which has two telephoto lenses which can achieve up to 10x optical zoom and up to 100x space zoom. The Mi 11 also has a video recording capabilities of up to 8k at 24 or 30 frames per second the same recording resolution as other flagships including the S21 Ultra. The 8K videos however eat up lots of memory capacity and we still don’t have 8k smartphone display so your options of enjoying such high-res videos is still limited. The decision therefore by realme to settled for 4k video recording the GT is to me a good move.
Software performance.
Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, the chipset of choice for high end 2021 smartphones. They also have the same memory capacities of 8+128GB or 12 + 256 GB though the Mi 11 has an extra option of 8+256GB. They also feature the Android 11 atop their respective UI and both don’t have SD card Support
Technically speaking we would expect the same performance between these two phones, so they get a similar score here.
Battery life.
While he realme GT has a 4,500 mAh battery, the Mi 11 has a slightly bigger 4,600 mAh battery. Considering the highly demanding display of the Mi 11, the phone drains it’s battery very fast. Luckily the Mi 11 Supports 55W fast charge which can achieve 100% charge in 45 minutes but is still slightly slower than the 65W of the realme GT which can deliver a full charge in 35 minutes. The Mi 11 also supports 50w wireless charge and 10W reverse charging. The GT also supports reverse charging which in most cases is used to charge wireless earbuds and other wearables.
So, which one of the two phones should you go for?
First look at these facts:
Both the realme GT and the Vivo X60 Pro Plus have almost the same display quality with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. However the X60 Pro Plus has a slightly bigger screen.
Both the realme GT and the Xiaomi Mi 11 feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and Android 11 OS.
The Mi 11 has a much more superior display with a QHD+ resolution and a high pixel desnity. The Mi 11 display is also bigger than that of the realme GT.
Both phones have the same memory size of either 8+128 or 12+256 GB.
Both phones have almost the same battery performance with almost the same fast charge support. However the Mi 11 has an extra luxury of wireless charging.
Xiaomi Mi 11 has a price tag of around $851 while realme GT has a price of around $540.
As to which phone you should go over the other we leave that to you, our reader to make that informed decision.
