The Mi 11 Lite 5G is the latest of the Mi 11 series smartphones released March 2021 with a retail price of around Ksh. 63,800. It is a 5G variant of the Mi 11 and should not be confused with the Mi 11 Lite 4G. The Mi 11 Lite 5G us a great alternative to the more expansive Mi 11 and Mi 11 Ultra and becomes the first smartphone to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G processor. 

It features a 6.55inch AMOLED panel Wich can display up to 1 Billion colors and supports both 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. It has a display resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 402 ppi. This is a high quality display and you will definitely love watching movies and playing videos on this phone. The Mi 11 Lite 4G varainat has almost the same display quality but with 90Hz refresh rate instead of the 120Hz in this phone.  

Measuring 169.5 x 75.7 x 6.8 mm the Mi 11 Lite 5g is one of the slimmest phones around at just 6.8mm thick. It is also very light weighing just 159g. In order to achieve just design however Xiaomi has to sacrifice the 3.5mm jack port but thankfully the phone comes with a UBC-c to 3.5Mm jack inverter so you won’t have to worry so much about this. 

Despite it’s slim design the Mi 11 Lite 5g has a strong built with a Gorilla Glass 6 front and a Glass back. This is an advantage over it’s close rival the realme GT 5G.  

Being a 2020 phone it comes with Android 11 atop Xiaomi’s own MIUI 12.OS. While the MIUI 12 comes with a number of bloatware in the name of pre-installed apps, it gives you an option to uninstall them unlike in Infinix XOS or Tecno’s HiOS. It also comes with a number of customizable features giving you an option to personalized your phone’s experience. The phone is also entitled to two major Android updates as well as security updates for the next three years giving so your phone will stay up-to-date for the next couple of years.

The highlight of this phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G, a 5nm fabricated chipset released early this year as a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 768G. The chipset is believed to have up to 40% better performance than it’s predecessor and is largely seen as a lite version of the Snapdragon 888 which has become the processor of choice for 2021 flagships. The Snapdragon 780G gives the Mi 11 Lite 5g a big advantage over it’s competitors including the Google pixel 5, the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G and so on. The chipset can handle multitasking and gaming very well and puts this phone at close range to flagship phones as far as performance is concerned. 

The Mi 11 5g is  is available in a range of memory variants of 6+64, 6+128, 8+128 and 8+256 GB storage but the 8GB is the one available internationally already selling in a number of markets including Europe. You can choose between Black, Mint Green and Citrus yellow.

In the camera department it comes with a total of four cameras, three in the rear and one in front. The rear cameras are made up of a 64MP primary wide lens, an 8MP Ultrawide lens and a 5MP macro lens. In front is a single 20MP selfie camera. This is more of a standard camera setup for a phone at this price and it’s camera performance is quite impressive. It can also shoot videos up to 4k at 30 frames per second while the front camera can record 1080p videos.
